Research Background

Currently, China not only face the Electronics-waste illegal import problem, but also face a Domestic Electronics Waste huge challenge - electronics waste in China is the world's second fastest increase country. China is suffering from unprecedented e-waste pollution seriously. Most of E-waste recycling dumping sites has been polluted very badly. Though, China government started to issue related regulation to set up formal recycling system and push Extend Producer Responsibility. But the public participant is very weak, over 80% citizens in Guangzhou, one of the most developed cities in China, have never heard about China WEEE regulation, which will enter into force on 1 January 2011. The formal E-waste recycling system still not set up effectively. The most of E-waste still flows into informal recycling sector. China government urgently needs to be built up an effective public participant's e-waste recycling system.

Therefore, I'd eager to conduct an important practical research, to provide an effective formal model of e-waste recycling system to the Chinese Government. This practical research will base on community in Beijing and Guangzhou, the environment education and solution will be provided to community citizen. We will discuss and interview deeply with them to further explore how to build up an effective e-waste recycling model base on community. We also will conduct formal e-waste recycling practice in some community to find out a solution for China WEEE. As a NGO Representative, I have responsibility to express my own voice on E-waste recycling system. [Sep. 2010]
